Ellen Jeffrey is a dance artist and researcher based in Lancaster, UK. A trained choreologist, she is currently studying for an AHRC-funded PhD in site-specific dance practice at Lancaster University. Having graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire, London (BA Dance Theatre) and University of the Arts, Helsinki (MA in Live Art and Performance Studies) she has worked for dance scholar Dr Valerie Preston-Dunlop and performed on projects with SAP Dance, LPM Dance Theatre and Summit Dance Theatre, as well as choreographing and performing her own works across Finland and the United Kingdom. Her most recent works include On the Patterns we Gaze (2019, funded by AHRC) and Longways/Crosswise (2018, in collaboration with About Time Dance Company, funded by Heritage Lottery). She is an Associate Lecturer at Lancaster University and Manchester School of Architecture.

Ellen will be using her time in the studio to work on her new solo work, On the Traces we Carry (June 2020), which explores the capacity for movement to carry place. Having established a time-specific movement practice taking place in Grubbins Wood (Arnside) at nightfall, On the Traces we Carry will consider the ways movement retains and transports the dialogues of one night-place to other night-places. In doing so, her practice seeks to create a movement-compost of the night-times and night-spaces that were, in the night-times and night-spaces that are.
