Mark / Shift / Loop is a collaborative project between dance artist Karen Wood, scenographer Paul Brownbill and visual artist Alys Scott-Hawkins. We have come together to explore feedback loops and improvisatory methods. Live in front of an audience, dancers perform a choreographed dance while an artist interprets the dance through drawing: responding to, and capturing, the movement and emotion. These animated drawings are projected on stage; on walls, in frames, and on the dancers’ bodies. Next: we now want to further our artistic research and spend time reflecting on what we have done and how to take the project forward. We want to explore the performative nature of scenography; the ‘live’ response visually through projection and lighting, and the sonic experience through an intuitive response to soundtrack.
