Charlie Ashwell and Es Morgan will continue their collaborative research spells: an experiment in the technical potential of dance and language to produce alternative orientations to the world. spells draws together ideas around witchcraft, transformation, radical futures and choreographic scores.
Charlie Ashwell is a dance artist working with choreography, writing, and dramaturgy as radical speculative practices. They work as producer and dramaturg with Seke Chimutengwende and Es Morgan, alongside teaching technique, improvisation and choreography at the University of Roehampton. Charlie’s choreographic practice explores the tensions, ironies and possibilities of witchcraft, bringing it into contact with experimental dancing and emancipatory politics.

Es Morgan is a queer performance artist, curator, writer, and producer from Hull, East Yorkshire. Their solo works Mum, I’m in the fourth dimension, see! and DRAG ON take cues from queer culture and far-left politics, attempting to carve out spaces for radically reimagining the future. They are currently completing an MA in Live Art at Queen Mary’s University in collaboration with Live Art Development Agency.

Together, Es and Charlie have organised workshops, discussions, performances and research events exploring gender, androgyny, magic, and post-work futures. Their collaborative publication hereafter is available to purchase online.
